Zeno Raises $25M to Scale Battery Swapping Across East Africa

🏍️ Meet Zeno
-
Zeno is an e-mobility company building electric motorbikes and a massive network of battery-swapping stations across East Africa.
-
And now, they’ve just secured $25M in a mix of equity and debt for their Series A!
-
Investor check. Congruent Ventures led the round, with participation from Active Impact and Lowercarbon Capital, and a $4.5M debt facility from Camber Road and Trifecta Capital.
⚙️ The Rider’s Struggle
-
In East Africa, delivery riders are the backbone of urban logistics, but they’re constantly hit by high fuel prices and expensive maintenance. These costs eat right into their daily take-home pay.
-
By moving to electric transport, riders can keep more of what they earn while helping lower urban pollution at the same time.
🔋 Swap and Go
-
Zeno’s edge is their proprietary battery-swapping tech. Instead of waiting hours for a charge, riders can swap a dead battery for a fresh one in under ten seconds.
-
The numbers. It’s already working. Zeno has clocked over 1.5 million kilometers of travel and handled 50,000 swaps across its Nairobi network.
📈 What's Next?
-
The $25M will be used to ramp up motorbike production and make the swapping station network even denser across Kenya.
-
They are also planning to roll out Battery-as-a-Service subscriptions that reduce upfront ownership costs.
-
Expansion mode. They aren't stopping at the border. Zeno plans to enter Uganda and Rwanda soon to meet the massive demand for green logistics in the region.
